Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in quality engineering or software engineering with a deep focus on quality in complex distributed system environments.
  • Hands-on experience testing web-based Software as a Service products across front-end behavior, application programming interfaces, service integrations, and end-to-end functional flows.
  • Experience with transactional or financially sensitive systems such as payments, billing, banking, e-commerce checkout, ledger, or reconciliation systems, including understanding the importance of correctness, idempotency, and auditability.
  • Experience building test automation frameworks from the ground up using tools such as Playwright, Cypress, or equivalent, including test design, maintainability, and judgment about what should not be automated.
  • Practical experience integrating automated tests and quality checks into continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines using GitHub, Buildkite, or similar platforms.
  • Experience contributing to deployment and release quality gates, including test suite selection and environment readiness checks.
  • Ability to translate customer needs into well-defined user stories, acceptance criteria, and risk-based test scenarios in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills across complex, multi-system failures.
  • Technical communication skills to influence engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders through evidence and expertise rather than authority.
  • Practical experience using artificial intelligence in modern software development, with sound judgment about where it helps and where it does not.
  • Curiosity about product architecture, customer workflows, and the business impact of engineering decisions.
Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end test strategy for the Payments product team, deciding what is tested manually, what is automated, at which layer, and why, based on the risk each area carries.
  • Design and execute validation for payment flows including authorization, capture, settlement, partial and full refunds, failed and retried transactions, chargebacks, idempotency, and reconciliation between company records and the provider's records.
  • Advocate for and support building and maintaining trustworthy automated coverage across user interface, application programming interface, and service layers.
  • Validate integrations with third-party payment gateways and providers, including sandbox behavior, webhook and callback handling, timeout and partial failure scenarios, and provider-side error handling.
  • Engage from discovery and refinement onward by challenging assumptions, surfacing missing scenarios, and ensuring acceptance criteria are specific and testable before a story is picked up.
  • Assess the team's current quality maturity, build a plan to improve it over the next two to three quarters, and share lessons with Senior Quality Analysts on other teams facing the same gaps.
  • Coach engineers, product managers, and designers on testing principles, test design, and shared ownership of automated tests.
  • Mentor mid-level Quality Assurance engineers on risk assessment, automation, observability, and shift-left practices.
  • Contribute to continuous integration and continuous delivery pipeline health and deployment quality gates, including test suite selection, environment readiness, pre- and post-deployment checks, feature flags, and staged rollout strategies.
  • Own production defect triage for Payments by assessing customer and financial impact, distinguishing severity from priority, driving fixes at the appropriate urgency, and following through to root cause and prevention.
  • Represent Payments quality in incident reviews and, when needed, in conversations with Support and customer-facing teams.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience testing payment gateway or provider integrations, such as Stripe or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with payment rail nuances including Automated Clearing House, Single Euro Payments Area, Bankers' Automated Clearing Services, or card networks, and with how timing and compliance rules affect testing.
  • Exposure to feature-flag-based or staged-rollout strategies for releasing payment features safely.
  • Experience validating reconciliation between internal records and a provider's settlement data.

StarRez Unveils Inaugural Higher Education Conference & Events Report

StarRez unveils inaugural Higher Education Conference & Events Report. Data reveals expanding off-season campus event operations, untapped revenue, and an urgent need for modern automation. GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., Nov. 12, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - StarRez, the global leader in student housing software solutions, today announced the release of its inaugural Higher Education Conference & Events Report, unveiled during Conference Connect, the company's annual C&E conference. As higher education institutions seek to diversify revenue sources in the face of widespread budget cuts, the report reveals an industry growing faster than its systems can handle, while offering a comprehensive analysis of how conferences and events held on campuses are being managed. The report uncovers a strain between growing ambition and the systems needed to support it. 75% of higher education institutions expect growth in the conference and events sector in the next three years, and over half now operate year-round programs instead of seasonal ones. Yet, most campus conference and events teams remain small, with six or fewer full-time staff. At the same time, many institutions still largely rely on time-consuming, fragmented processes: 57% of institutions use two to three different systems to handle conferences and events, and one in five use four or more systems, many of which require manual workflows. As the demands on campus events staff grow, dissatisfaction with existing tools might only increase if institution leaders do not respond. "Campus conference and events teams are doing incredible work to drive engagement and revenue, often with limited staff and fragmented systems," said Jason Day, CEO of StarRez. "This report shines a light on their innovation and resilience, as well as the growing need for integrated tools that empower them to achieve even more. We know there is tremendous opportunity for growth in the industry - now it's time to equip them." Along with the mismatch between expanding ambition and the infrastructure required to sustain it in the industry, the report explores several key themes that will shape the future of higher education conference and events strategies: * Institutions Should Maximize Revenue Sources: Many campuses still leave revenue on the table. Only 60% of campus housing capacity is used for conference guests, and a majority of institutions rely primarily on youth camps and internal events. The report identifies a clear opportunity to leverage underused housing through short-stay programs, external events, and corporate rentals. * Experience and Efficiency Are the New Differentiators: While price and location remain top priorities, on-campus events success is increasingly driven by communication, speed, and service quality. Delays and inefficiencies in communication and billing are among the most common pain points identified by survey respondents, underscoring that operational excellence is becoming the new competitive focus. * Are AI and Automation the Future?: The report also highlights cautious curiosity about emerging technologies. While only 5% of institutions currently use AI tools, 35% want to learn more, and 15% are actively exploring AI-driven applications. The greatest perceived upside lies in guest communications and administrative automation, two areas where AI is poised to redefine efficiency within events and conference management.
