Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license for the state of employment.
  • Demonstrate basic personal computer competency and the ability to use mobile applications on handheld devices.
  • Be familiar with simple wiring diagrams, symbols, and electrical measuring.
  • Have experience with work order management, preventive and predictive maintenance procedures, commonly used industrial tools, basic carpentry and plumbing, basic blueprint and schematic reading, basic alternating-current and direct-current electrical and electronic principles, basic metal fabrication, basic industrial controls, and welding.
  • Regularly bend, lift, stretch, and reach below the waist and above the head; lift and move totes or cartons weighing up to 49 pounds; walk frequently within and around the site; climb ladders and gangways safely; work from platforms and equipment at significant heights; and stand or walk for up to 10–12 hours.
  • Work safely in conditions that may include small spaces, dust, fumes or odors, hot or cold temperatures, indoor or outdoor noise, vibration, prolonged standing on concrete, and wet or uneven surfaces.
  • Follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment while maintaining equipment, including Lockout/Tagout and Arc Flash practices.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain and perform basic troubleshooting of the electrical and mechanical aspects of on-site material handling equipment, including conveyor systems, sortation equipment, scales, and printer applicators.
  • Demonstrate mechanical proficiency with hydraulic and pneumatic systems and alternating-current and direct-current electrical motors and drives.
  • Adjust, reset, repair, or replace adjustable components such as belts, chains, and cables, as well as wearing components such as guides, bearings, wheels, rollers, and pulleys.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot motors, photo eyes, relays, proximity sensors, solenoids, motor starters, tachometers, and encoders.
  • Clean, lubricate, and calibrate equipment using appropriate job plans, procedures, and manuals.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on facility equipment, including powered industrial trucks, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning equipment, air compressors and dryers, and balers.
  • Perform basic electrical maintenance and simple repair or replacement of electrical circuits and related electronic equipment using multimeters and infrared thermometers.
  • Read and understand basic electrical and electronic schematics.
  • Use handheld devices and asset-management-system mobile applications to create and close work orders with labor hours, downtime, problem, cause, remedy, and parts-used data.
  • Collaborate with other mechanics and Senior Systems Engineers to resolve problems, validate the quality of outside specialty contractors' work, and perform root-cause analysis for equipment failures.
  • Operate company-owned vehicles to complete maintenance activities on the facility exterior and in the trailer yard, and travel to nearby facilities and local stores to procure parts and supplies as needed.
  • Maintain positive working relationships across all organizational levels and eliminate potential equipment safety hazards.
  • Complete hands-on validation and a written assessment demonstrating proficiency in Maintenance Technician 2 requirements for promotion potential.
Desired Qualifications
  • A degree from a vocational school or college focused on Mechanical or Electrical fields.
  • Two or more years of apprenticeship or equivalent experience in the Mechanical or Electrical field.
  • Experience with automated conveyor systems and controls.
  • Experience with material handling equipment safety standards.
  • Experience with programmable logic controller programs and human-machine interfaces.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic input/output functions.
  • Experience with robotic operation and maintenance.
