Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certification through CRCST - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) for Sterile Processing Technician I/II/III
  • For Sterile Processing Technician II: at least twelve months of experience in sterile processing
  • For Sterile Processing Technician III: at least two years of experience in sterile processing
Responsibilities
  • Maintain adequate inventory for assembly of instruments and equipment
  • Perform and participate in the decontamination and cleaning of all instrumentation received, which include but are not limited to instrumentation and equipment received from all units according to established standards and procedures
  • Prepare case carts and trays for decontamination and load them into washer and/or sterilizer as prescribed procedure
  • Operate the index washers, cart washers, ultrasonic cleaners as well as manually cleaning instruments and equipment as prescribed by established standards and procedures
  • Inspect all instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and breakage by viewing the instruments before assembly
  • Use appropriate container, wrap or pouch according to the size of the instrument or equipment
  • Sterilizes instruments and surgical trays by following prescribed policies and procedures
  • Know how to run tests on all sterilizers, monitor and document that all parameters have been met
  • Use chemicals in the appropriate fashion taking into consideration the intended use of chemical as well as chemicals function: knowledge of appropriate PPE is also necessary
  • Participates in expediting the OR schedule by assisting the other members of the OR Team in obtaining the instruments/equipment necessary for the procedure in a timely manner
  • Assembles and distributes case carts accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ability to travel between sites as needed, based on departmental needs
Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of a Sterile Processing or Surgical Technologist program
  • Basic computer skills and use of an EMR system
  • Knowledge of instrumentation
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
