Requirements
  • Must be enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in an engineering, physics, or math discipline by the start of employment.
  • Must have at least 3 months of applied engineering experience; internships and project team experience are strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to comply with U.S. Department of Energy export control regulations governing access to nuclear technology under 10 CFR Part 810.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Own a well-scoped piece of reactor-critical mechanical hardware end-to-end, including design, analysis, prototyping, and testing, with mentorship from the engineer responsible for the system.
  • Support hardware validation through thermal cycling, pressure cycling, shock, and vibration testing; develop fixturing and document results in technical reports.
  • Apply first-order hand calculations and engineering fundamentals to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations with partial information.
  • Collaborate daily with technicians, engineers from other systems, and managers to develop designs balancing cost, efficiency, and deployment logistics.
Desired Qualifications
  • A GPA of 3.5 or above.
  • At least 12 months of experience applying technical skills outside the classroom; prior internships and project team experience are strongly preferred, while exceptional personal projects or laboratory research may substitute.
  • Experience using test instrumentation and control components, including pressure transducers, thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors, relays, and solenoid valves.
  • Ability to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment with frequent interaction with technicians, engineers, and managers.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic professional setting with changing needs and requirements.

Its core product is the Ember 25 MWe reactor, with a subscale Ember Mini prototype planned before moving to full-scale deployment.
