Requirements
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 7 years of experience building production software, with a track record of owning systems end to end.
  • Experience building production artificial intelligence and large language model systems, including retrieval-augmented generation and agentic workflows.
  • Strong Python skills and comfort working in a TypeScript codebase.
  • Experience with distributed systems, asynchronous and event-driven architectures, and large batch data processing.
  • Demonstrated ownership of production reliability, including instrumentation, on-call work, incident response, and data-driven performance work.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and explain design decisions and trade-offs to engineers and non-engineers.
Responsibilities
  • Build and own platform capabilities powering artificial intelligence agents, including orchestration, retrieval, model routing, tool integration, and reliability.
  • Design retrieval systems across large-scale legal document collections.
  • Develop shared platform services for prompt management, caching, rate limiting, and cost attribution.
  • Define stable application programming interfaces and data contracts for product teams.
  • Develop evaluation frameworks measuring accuracy, grounding, citation quality, and overall system performance.
  • Build observability, tracing, and replay capabilities for rapid troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
  • Establish quality gates and monitoring to identify regressions before production release.
  • Optimize latency, throughput, and scalability across interactive and batch workloads.
  • Drive decisions about model selection, inference strategies, caching, and routing while managing cost as a core engineering metric.
  • Build reliable systems through monitoring, alerting, incident response, and operational excellence practices.
  • Implement governance, auditability, and human-in-the-loop controls for legal and regulated workflows.
  • Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and data residency requirements.
  • Write design documents and architecture decision records for consequential platform decisions, including rejected trade-offs.
  • Raise engineering standards through code review, pairing, and mentoring.
  • Partner with Product Management, legal domain experts, and Review Operations to turn ambiguous problems into shippable scope.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, and MCP.
  • Experience with large language model observability and evaluation tooling such as Langfuse and OpenTelemetry tracing.
  • Knowledge of vector databases, search infrastructure, and information retrieval fundamentals.
  • Experience with hallucination detection, grounding verification, and benchmarking methodology.
  • Experience with model fine-tuning, quantization, or inference optimization.
  • Experience with React and modern frontend development for internal evaluation and debugging tools.
  • Experience in legal technology, eDiscovery, compliance, investigations, or document review.
  • Experience with multi-tenant software-as-a-service platforms requiring strict data isolation.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL.
