Requirements

  • Detailed knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems design, including HVAC load calculations, cost estimating, system selection, and hydronic and pump systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of plumbing layout and design, including domestic water, waste and vent piping systems, plumbing fixture selection, and cost estimates.
  • Detailed knowledge of electrical systems design, including riser and one-line diagrams, power distribution, electrical service size calculations, lighting design, and cost estimates.
  • Familiarity with building code requirements and working with the authority having jurisdiction.
  • Bachelor’s degree in architectural, mechanical, electrical, or a related engineering field.
  • At least 8 years of engineering experience in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design.
  • Professional Engineer licensure, with ability to obtain licensure in required states as soon as possible.
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Responsibilities
  • Act as a technical specialist in the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing focus area.
  • Develop plans and specifications for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing projects.
  • Perform cooling and heating, duct design and layout, hydronic HVAC system, plumbing, lighting, building power system, and power distribution design work.
  • Design new or renovation projects, perform site investigations, and document existing conditions.
  • Provide internal technical advice to project managers for proposals and client presentations.
  • Collaborate with the project manager on project planning, scope, concepts, strategies, task organization, effort estimates, fee structure, risk management, resource identification, schedules, cost estimates, and budget estimates.
  • Direct, manage, and participate in production of project deliverables, including signing and sealing work products as a Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Prepare preliminary studies, plans, cost estimates, final study reports, designs, specifications, contract documents, and project deliverables.
  • Define and oversee the design process and conduct project status and review meetings.
  • Manage bidding, contract awards, contract administration oversight, and quality of project deliverables.
  • Perform site investigations and prepare reports documenting existing conditions.
  • Use AutoCAD and Revit to design and analyze projects.
  • Provide input to project accounting, including review of project time and expense charges.
  • Oversee and direct assignments of engineers and technicians assigned to projects.
  • Provide performance feedback and coaching to project team members, and provide performance information to team leaders, delivery or marketing leaders, and project managers.
  • Analyze project issues and recommend efficient, cost-effective solutions.
  • Meet with equipment vendors on a technical basis with project managers and project teams.
  • Select materials and equipment based on performance, cost, and operation and maintenance considerations.
  • Visit clients and job sites to support projects and business development.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to senior technicians and designers on plumbing, HVAC, and electrical equipment selection and layout.
  • Serve as a consultant on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing projects during construction.
  • Handle multiple complex projects for multiple clients simultaneously.
  • Travel in-state and out-of-state to visit offices and project sites and attend seminars or business meetings.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge or experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing software is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with SpecLink is preferred.
