Requirements
  • 7+ years’ property and casualty underwriting experience.
  • Experience in complex risk underwriting, in all P&C lines, ideally with a complement of experience or good understanding of Professional Lines and Cyber.
  • At a senior level, the individual has successfully underwritten large to multinational corporations, with experience in Property, Domestic and Excess Casualty Lines.
  • University degree; CIP or FCIP designation.
  • Expertise and depth in policy wordings, forms and applicable coverages.
  • Superior relationship management skills proven through established broker relationships and demonstrated track record of generating new business premium.
  • Strong administrative skills and highly detail oriented.
  • Excellent presentation skills -- comfortable speaking in front of small and large groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a contributing team member.
  • Ability to deliver results even when working to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong business acumen and capable of representing the organization externally.
Responsibilities
  • Underwrite and service a growing book of business, including risk selection, coverage negotiation and pricing adequacy on new and renewable business, all in accordance with designated underwriting authorities and company guidelines.
  • Reviews and processes changes on existing accounts to maintain compliance with policy conditions and company underwriting philosophy.
  • Identify, analyze and develop sources of new business; assists in developing marketing strategies for new or improved products.
  • Partner with peers in other product lines to leverage multi-line opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain superior business and service-oriented partnerships with Markel's broker clients through regular and frequent attendance at client broker events and industry conferences.
  • May mentor junior team members in providing advice and guidance on technical underwriting matters as well as marketing and servicing techniques and approaches.
  • Maintain market intelligence, business insurance trends and industry knowledge.

Luma Capital S.A. SPF, an investment firm, purchased a new position in Markel Group Inc. (NYSE:MKL) during the fourth quarter, according to a recent SEC filing.
