  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of multi-state payroll experience, preferably in retail industry
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in a payroll/accounting department
  • Strong understanding and experience with payroll systems, payroll processing and compliance issues
  • CPP Preferred
  • Strong payroll processing skills and excellent Excel skills
  • Needs to be well organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and have solid time management skills
  • Illustrates a dedication to meeting requirements of internal and external customers, responding to all customer requests promptly and thoroughly
  • Strong communication skills including ability to work in a team environment, give honest, direct feedback and is a solid verbal and written communicator

  • Meets deadlines, prioritizes appropriately, copes well with change, and maintains composure under pressure

Responsibilities
  • Ensures payroll processing deadlines are met, the payroll records are accurate, internal payroll policies/procedures are followed, and that the department is in compliance with SOX requirements
  • Manages the outsourced garnishment process
  • Ensures adherence to internal controls; recommending improvements to controls as needed, based on best practices; fosters strong control environment to ensure integrity of payroll
  • In partnership with IT, liaises between the Company and payroll software providers, and may assist with troubleshooting payroll/timekeeping system issues
  • In partnership with IT, supports all payroll/timekeeping system upgrades and improvements
  • Responsible for identifying payroll compliance rules, regulations and procedures; works with all parties (internal and external) to ensure that the company is in compliance in a timely matter
  • Manages payroll processing and reporting deliverables; provides leadership, guidance, and mentoring to Payroll Supervisor, Payroll Lead and Payroll Administrators through effective goal setting, performance management, and professional development
  • Recommends improvements and develops strategies to improve overall department effectiveness and efficiency
  • Supports annual and internal financial reporting and ensures appropriate supporting documentation is provided to external and bank auditors
  • Works on special projects and addresses business and financial ramifications of significant and/or unusual transactions, as needed
