Requirements
  • Adhere to safety requirements, including safety directives and procedures, personal protective equipment use, and safety observations.
  • Verify and replace handheld calibrated measurement devices.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for nonconformances.
  • Perform internal audits, write audit findings, and lead audit-closing discussions.
  • Participate in meetings with Operations, Quality, and Maintenance.
  • Participate on Production and Quality teams.
  • Manage workload and changing priorities.
  • Support continuous improvement processes.
  • Create dispositions for non-compliant product.
  • Inspect in-process material and sample incoming raw material.
  • Support operators in troubleshooting equipment issues that lead to nonconforming product.
  • Monitor key process variables for conformance and recommend corrective action.
  • Review and modify job instructions, Quality Assurance Plans, and related documents within the document control system.
  • Use process deviations to track and control experiments or variations in prescribed processes.
  • Perform process and behavioral observations to verify compliance with documented standards.
  • Perform capability and control statistical studies with guidance.
  • Use diagnostic equipment and tools to monitor process parameters, including dimensional gauging tools, thermometric devices, process data recording devices, handheld tools, and handheld profilometers.
  • Assist in validating quality systems through measurement system analysis and Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility studies.
  • Receive samples and log their receipt in a timely manner.
  • Prepare samples for testing using shears, band saws, lathes, sanders, grinders, and vertical milling machines.
  • Perform routine tests according to standard operating procedures using analytical and mechanical test equipment, including spectrometers, tensile testers, microscopes, burets, and pH meters.
  • Work with heavy machine tools such as milling machines, lathes, saws, shears, and routers.
  • Apply analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understand on-the-job hazards.
  • Learn and perform analytical chemistry, metallurgical testing, and routine laboratory testing tasks.
  • Use mathematics and precision measuring equipment.
  • Use Microsoft Office products, including Microsoft Word, Power BI, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Work periodically on off-shifts and weekends.
  • Lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Travel infrequently to customers, suppliers, or training events.
  • Have one to three years of experience working as a laboratory or quality technician in manufacturing.
  • Have proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Responsibilities
  • Inspect and sample raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products.
  • Review, investigate the basic root causes of, and disposition metal placed on hold for quality defects.
  • Perform capability studies on processes and equipment.
  • Perform process inspections and audits to ensure compliance with established standards and expectations.
  • Work with Production, Laboratory, Quality Engineers, and Process Engineers to assist with root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
  • Cross-train in core quality-control laboratory tasks and provide backup coverage.
  • Support quality-control laboratory and supervision activities as required.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests according to standard operating procedures.
  • Work safely around corrosive and volatile process chemicals, moving machinery, mobile equipment, overhead cranes, heat, cold, dust, smoke, and loud noise.
  • Walk long distances within the mill, climb and descend stairs and ladders, stand for long periods, and handle samples with sharp edges or burrs.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree with prior applicable work experience.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
  • Knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning methodology.
