Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: 3 12-hour night shifts per week, including some weekends & holidays
Job Summary/Purpose: Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, The Monitor Technician performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.
Minimum Training and Education:
Monitor Technician I: A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Credentials: Successful completion of EKG training/competency within 3 attempts in 3 months in position is required to remain in the position.
Monitor Technician II (24 hours/week or greater): At least 1 year in a .6 FTE or greater Monitor Technician I position at MUSC or 1 year of Monitor Technician/Telemetry work experience in a health care facility and successful completion of the EKG training/competency during the orientation period in order to remain in the Monitor Technician II position.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider within first two weeks of employment required.
