- A bachelor's degree in wildlife biology or a closely related natural resource field.
- The ability to collect data accurately while working independently or as part of a small team.
- The ability to work early mornings and walk or hike for extended periods while carrying a field pack in adverse environmental conditions and challenging terrain.
- The ability to obtain a valid driver's license.
- Proficient typing and transcription skills, including the ability to complete repetitive tasks.
- Conduct monitoring for birds, bats, and mammals using autonomous recording units, including acoustic and ultrasonic monitors, and trail cameras in west Texas.
- Deploy and maintain monitors at the west Texas field site, process data using automated classifiers, and manually verify species identifications from classifier results.
- Perform data entry and upload files to the project database.
- Work closely with staff and collaborators to conduct project activities and support the overall needs of the project.
- Travel frequently to west Texas field sites to deploy autonomous recording units and trail cameras, including device setup, maintenance, and data retrieval.
- Organize and process acoustic recordings and photographs using automated classification software such as BirdNET, SonoBat, and MegaDetector, as well as manual file review.
- Conduct data entry and quality control checks and upload files to the project database.
- Ensure that all field gear and sensors are in good working order.
- Maintain detailed field notes and communicate frequently with project supervisors.
- Experience identifying mammals, birds, particularly by sound, and/or bats by sonogram occurring in west Texas.
- Experience deploying autonomous recording units and/or trail cameras for wildlife research.
- Experience driving four-wheel-drive vehicles.
- Experience with field navigation and spatial data collection using GPS.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, and/or automated wildlife-detection classification software such as BirdNET, SonoBat, and MegaDetector.
