  • A bachelor's degree in an applicable field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Three years of related experience in campus recreation, including related supervisory experience, are required.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications is required.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and program development is required.
  • The ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others is required.
  • Customer service and assessment skills are required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Required certifications include American Red Cross Adult CPR and AED, First Aid, American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, American Red Cross Safety Instructor, Association for Challenge Course Technology Level 1 or another nationally recognized ropes course certification, wilderness excursion instructor or leader certification, AFO or CPO, or the ability to obtain WSS within three months of employment.
  • Applicants must be able to work beyond normal office hours and/or on weekends.
  • Travel is required.
  • Applicants subject to the equivalency option must have four years of related experience in lieu of the bachelor's degree plus the minimum required experience, for a total of seven years of experience.
  • Applicants are subject to a criminal history investigation and verification of credentials or other required information.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and manage aquatics programming and outdoor recreational programs.
  • Engage students in activities including swimming, water aerobics, camping, biking, hiking, canoeing, and rock climbing.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate approximately 10 or more student employees serving as aqua class instructors, swim instructors, lifeguards, and a student coordinator.
  • Supervise and develop student staff on a daily basis.
  • Plan and schedule monthly in-service training for lifeguards to maintain current lifesaving abilities and emergency procedures for pool safety.
  • Schedule monthly American Red Cross class offerings for lifeguards, recreation sports staff, students, and local community members.
  • Order and maintain inventory of mannequins and supplies required to teach American Red Cross classes.
  • Complete the American Red Cross Instructor's Corner process after each class to submit training records and request cards for participants who successfully complete the class.
  • Coordinate training and procedures for providing certification cards to participants who successfully complete American Red Cross CPR and/or First Aid classes.
  • Market and promote American Red Cross classes offered at the student recreation center.
  • Coordinate registration and confirm payments associated with each class.
  • Review and justify budget transaction records and allocate program-area funding for daily needs.
  • Lead training and assess and evaluate program effectiveness and student satisfaction in relation to Texas A&M University System student learning objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
