Position Overview: Director, Data Privacy
The Director of Data Privacy serves as a key member of the Technology Leadership team and will lead our data privacy initiatives and ensure compliance with applicable data protection laws and regulations.
This role will oversee our data privacy and protection polices to ensure our organization processes and protects the personal data of our customers, partners and employees in accordance with our policies and regulatory compliance requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of global data privacy principles, excellent leadership abilities, and a proven track record of developing and implementing effective data privacy programs.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop and Implement Data Privacy Policies: Lead the creation, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive data privacy policies and procedures in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Monitor Regulatory Changes: Partner with our Legal organization to stay informed of and provide guidance on current and emerging privacy laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct regular risk assessments, data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), and audits to identify potential privacy risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on data privacy principles, policies, and best practices.
- Incident Response: Lead and coordinate the response to data breaches and privacy incidents, including investigation, notification, and remediation efforts.
- Data Subject Rights: Manage and oversee the process for handling data subject requests, ensuring timely and accurate responses in accordance with applicable laws.
- Vendor Management: Collaborate with procurement to evaluate and manage privacy risks associated with third-party vendors and service providers.
- Reporting and Metrics: Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of the data privacy program and report findings to the CTO.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Provide strategic guidance and partnership with other functional departments and business units to ensure data privacy is integrated into all business processes and systems.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced degree or certification (e.g., CIPP, CIPM, CIPT) preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in data privacy, data protection, or compliance roles, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership position.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of global data privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR and other relevant frameworks.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in privacy management tools and software.
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact, lead, and influence effectively cross-functionally and with people at all levels of the company.
- Experienced problem solver who can work independently and quickly adapt to changing client and team needs.
