Requirements
  • Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
  • Must possess current or temporary Nuclear Medicine license as required by state board where services will be provided:MD: Nuclear Medicine Technologist through Maryland Board of Physicians
  • OH: Nuclear Medicine Technologist through Ohio Department of Health
  • PA: No state license required
  • WV: Nuclear Medicine Technologist OR Nuclear Medicine Apprentice License through West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board
Responsibilities
  • Attends and participates in departmental meetings and activities to support progress improvement and team building.
  • Participates in planning and implementing change, maintaining and improving high quality, cost effective department operations.
  • Performs a full range of PET procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and ultimate treatment of patients.
  • Plans and performs diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures to produce medical images and information for the diagnosis or treatment of patients meeting the quality standards of the department as identified through professional literature and department protocol, policy and procedure.
  • Maintains professional and technical competencies as required by the organization, the accreditation and licensing bodies (where applicable).
  • Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff in accordance with WVU Radiation Safety Department policy, procedure and guidelines as well as State, Federal, The Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification using identified communication mechanisms to ensure the performance of radiology services.
  • Assesses patients needs related to comfort, hygiene and range of motion and provides support accordingly.
  • Performs as a clinical and/or didactic instructor meeting the quality standards of the radiology education program(s) as identified through professional literature, department and radiology education program(s) protocol, policy and procedure.

  • The PET Clinical Ladder is a system-wide clinical advancement program to enhance professional development, provide a reward system for quality clinical performance, promote quality imaging care, and improve job satisfaction for respiratory therapists.
  • To apply for the next level, the PET Technologist must meet the requirements of their current level. They must also meet the required years of experience, degree, and certification to apply for the next level.
  • Level 1: No experience required.
  • All PET Technologists with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level one.
  • Level 2: Meets requirements for previous level. One year of experience. Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, plus additional skill sets.
  • Level 3: Meets requirements for previous levels. One continuing education pathway. Three years of experience. Compliant in 3 leadership/supervisory skills. Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus additional skill sets.
  • Level 4: Meets requirements for previous levels. One continuing education pathway. Five years of experience. Compliant in 5 leadership/supervisory skills. Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, 2, and 3 plus 3 additional skill sets.
  • Preference: diagnostic CT certification.
