  • An earned doctorate in Counseling or a closely related field from an accredited university.
  • A distinguished record in teaching and research warranting a faculty appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
  • Eligibility for tenure will be determined by reviewing the candidate’s years of experience and professional achievements in teaching, service, and research consistent with Texas A&M University System guidance.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge and understanding of disciplinary subject matter at a level adequate for graduate-level instruction.
  • Written and oral communication skills sufficient to conduct effective teaching and research activities.
  • Ability to interact with students, staff, and faculty in a professional, collegial, and collaborative manner.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with department faculty and staff to establish a departmental vision aligned with the vision of the school, college, and university.
  • Lead the shared development and implementation of a departmental strategic plan.
  • Work with college and institutional leadership to fulfill the institutional strategic plan Tarleton Forward 2030.
  • Develop and manage the department’s budget in collaboration with college and university administration.
  • Oversee allocation of departmental resources, including equipment, lab space, technology, and office space.
  • Work with the university budget specialist on record keeping and university reporting.
  • Ensure ongoing review, development, and modification of curriculum to meet student needs, accreditation standards, and industry expectations.
  • Ensure review and evaluation of existing academic programs using data to enhance quality and alignment with institutional goals.
  • Work with department and university partners to propose and develop new undergraduate and graduate programs, including interdisciplinary programs, majors, minors, and certificates.
  • Ensure academic programs meet discipline and institutional accreditation requirements, including preparation of required reports and supporting documentation.
  • Oversee faculty and staff recruitment efforts and ensure compliant recruitment practices and high-quality hiring.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to faculty and staff and support their professional development, effective teaching practices, and competitive scholarship.
  • Oversee faculty teaching assignments and the collaborative articulation of faculty teaching, research, service, and administrative goals in annual Statement of Expectation documents.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations of faculty and staff, including faculty midpoint, tenure and promotion, and post-tenure reviews.
  • Foster communication within the department and with school and college leadership, and address and mediate faculty and staff disputes.
  • Foster student engagement, retention, and graduation and support student organizations within the department.
  • Ensure class offerings meet student demand and degree progression requirements.
  • Support faculty in upholding academic integrity and rigor and mediate departmental processes for student academic appeals.
  • Work with Enrollment Management and the College of Graduate Studies to market programs and increase enrollment.
  • Connect students with opportunities for internships, experiential learning, and career exploration.
  • Teach 15 semester credit hours of coursework during the calendar year on a 2/2/1 schedule.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, seminars, and laboratory offerings to undergraduate and graduate students, potentially including general education core curriculum.
  • Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate student learning outcomes to inform teaching practices and curriculum improvements.
  • Incorporate innovative teaching methods, technologies, and pedagogical approaches to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Remain an active scholar in accordance with university, college, and department tenure and promotion guidelines.
  • Maintain an active agenda for research, scholarship, or creative activity appropriate to the academic discipline.
  • Make original contributions through scholarly publication, presentation, or exhibition.
  • Demonstrate potential for external funding, national impact, or professional recognition.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority.
  • Travel occasionally to all campus locations served by the department.
Desired Qualifications
  • Administrative and leadership experience as a department head or chair at the college or university level, or supervisory or management experience in an academic setting.
  • Experience overseeing accredited academic programs or leading a program toward accreditation, including knowledge of CACREP accreditation and graduation from a CACREP-accredited program.
  • Ability to use and understand data to inform departmental strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Ability to set operational goals from strategic plans and lead direct reports to accomplish strategic goals and initiatives.
