MoveParallel.com focuses on rail freight. It sells automated, battery-electric freight rail vehicles and integration tools to railroads, enabling them to move freight from trucking to rail on corridors under 1,000 miles. The system combines an autonomous/automated vehicle with software and services to integrate into existing railroad operations, and it may include ongoing maintenance contracts and consulting. Compared with traditional rail or trucking, the company targets shorter-haul routes and aims to expand railroad markets by offering a flexible, cleaner transportation option that reduces carbon emissions. The goal is to convert more freight to rail for shorter distances, improving efficiency and sustainability in freight movement.

Parallel Systems tests driverless freight trains

Parallel Systems, a Los Angeles startup, is testing autonomous, electric freight trains in California and Georgia, aiming to reduce truck traffic and emissions. The company raised $100 million and received federal approval for testing. Their trains, powered by lithium-iron phosphate batteries, can travel 500 miles on a single charge and operate independently or in groups. While promising, challenges include market viability and potential job impacts. The technology could transform short-haul freight transport.
