WHY BOX NEEDS YOU
Box is looking for an experienced IP Counsel who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a broad range of responsibilities. This role will report to Box’s Chief IP Counsel and work very closely with Marketing, Branding, Engineering, and Product teams. We are seeking candidates to sit in Box’s Redwood City or Austin office, but are open to exceptional candidates who are located near one of Box’s other US offices.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Take a lead role in formulating, directing and managing trademark enforcement strategies around the globe, including reviewing trademark watch list hits and leading online brand enforcement efforts in app stores and social media platforms
- Manage trademark dispute resolutions and direct trademark oppositions, including gathering evidence, negotiating trademark settlement and co-existence agreements, and devising trademark opposition and cancellation strategies
- Manage Box’s trademark portfolio, including conducting worldwide clearance searches and directing trademark prosecution
- Work cross-functionally to provide legal support for marketing materials, communications initiatives, and commercial announcements across the organization, including Box’s annual conferences
- Manage our domain name portfolio and manage domain related trademark enforcement strategies
- Work cross-functionally to develop and implement open source strategies and compliance programs that direct how we implement, contribute to, and create open source
- Assist with IP litigation and disputes, including patent, trademark, copyright and other matters
- Manage several time-sensitive projects at once, with eagerness to take on the latest legal issues
- Assist with other projects on the Legal team, as needed
WHO YOU ARE
- J.D. degree and membership in at least one U.S. state bar
- 4+ years of trademark and/or general intellectual property experience at a law firm, government, or in-house role, including experience building and enforcing trademark portfolios and counseling on other intellectual property issues such as copyright and open source
- Experience at a reputable law firm (some in-house legal department or secondment experience preferred)
- Experience formulating trademark enforcement strategies and negotiating trademark settlement and co-existence agreements, including experience coordinating international trademark enforcement strategies
- Experience managing a trademark portfolio
- Experience reviewing marketing materials for compliance with advertising and unfair competition laws preferred
- Experience with building an open source review and compliance program preferred
- Experience with patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret litigations and license negotiations
- Experience managing multiple high priority projects simultaneously
- Able to develop strategies, manage tight timelines, and provide regular reporting
- Experience working with and influencing cross-functional partners
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical and collaborative skills
- Attention to detail, good sense of humor, team player yet autonomous, highest level of judgment and integrity
- Comfortable juggling multiple demands and shifting priorities
