Genki acquires AI insurtech Wave Claims to automate health insurance processing

Genki, an international health insurance provider for digital nomads and long-term travellers, has acquired Cologne-based insurtech startup Wave Claims and its Claim OS software. This marks Genki's first acquisition. The deal brings AI and claims expertise in-house for Genki. Claim OS automates health insurance claims processing by reading invoices and medical documents, structuring data, coding diagnoses to international ICD standards, and flagging potential fraud. Human reviewers remain involved where judgment is needed. Genki will use the technology to improve claim submission, enabling members to know exactly which documents their claim requires at the point of filing. Since launching in 2021, Genki has covered more than 75,000 travellers from 196 countries.
