Requirements
  • Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education-approved program.
  • Have a minimum of 3-5 years of athletic training experience.
  • Hold BCLS certification.
  • Complete the required Certified Athletic Trainer competency skills validation.
  • Currently hold a Michigan Athletic Trainer license in good standing or be eligible for licensure within 90 days of hire.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Have keyboarding skills to operate a personal computer or mobile device.
  • Be able to stand or walk extensively, lift light objects up to 20 pounds, and assist with lifting and moving patients.
  • Maintain and upgrade competencies based on the population served, care provided, and advances in healthcare sciences and technology.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for examinations, including initial assessments, histories, vital signs, medication reconciliation, and immunizations.
  • Assist with joint injections, aspirations, cast removal and application, suture and staple removal, and durable medical equipment application.
  • Complete FMLA and disability forms and provide clinical information and support to providers.
  • Educate patients and families about home exercise programs, medication management, referrals, treatment and care, and preoperative and postoperative care.
  • Provide patient triage coverage for the Sports Medicine Same Day Clinic as needed.
  • Participate in family and community education.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team discussions and clinics.
  • Support program development.
  • Serve as a resource in areas of expertise.
  • Provide in-service education in areas of expertise for the practice.
  • Document in the electronic health record according to compliance guidelines.
  • Communicate documentation limitations to leadership when they prevent timely documentation.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and complete electronic medical records.
  • Participate in process improvement.
  • Demonstrate time management skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in Athletic Training.
  • Experience with Epic.
  • Three or more years of experience as a certified athletic trainer.
