As a Senior Underwriter, you will play a critical role in growing our business by supporting our leading thought leadership and advocacy for our plan sponsor policyholders.
Job Summary:
To underwrite profitable new and renewal business opportunities in Encore Fiduciary’s fiduciary and management liability underwriting departments by:
Servicing the renewal book, producing new business, underwriting, and account management of management liability, fiduciary liability, miscellaneous professional liability, and other professional liability accounts
Building relationships with brokers and clients to meet/exceed divisional growth goals.
Exercising discretion and independent judgment in the analysis and evaluation of the risk.
Making independent sales calls to market and cross-market products.
Negotiating with brokers within the limits of delegated authority in accordance with established underwriting standards to achieve profitable objective.
Key Responsibilities:
Underwrite new and renewal submissions with an emphasis on risk analysis, coverage and price. Indicate, quote, request additional information or decline in accordance with established guidelines, authorities and procedures outlined by the insurance carrier and/or the department.
Review expiration/renewal lists with the Underwriting Technician and identify accounts to be non-renewed.
Develop, over time, an expertise in fiduciary liability insurance for multiemployer, governmental and for-profit plan sponsors.
Review loss runs from insurance carriers and review risks for frequency or severity of claims.
Research underwriting issues and marketplace conditions and report to underwriting and marketing team to maintain competitive edge and industry awareness.
Foster producer relationships by actively making marketing telephone calls and on occasion accompany the marketing team for an office visit.
Research and resolve underwriting issues with manager or insurance company on a per account basis.
Adhere to Departmental agreed upon turnaround/servicing standards for all facets of underwriting.
Maintain a solid working relationship with insurance carrier and agents/brokers.
Demonstrate the ability to articulate coverage differences and company stances to brokers.
Develop comprehensive referrals for the management team to review or for carrier approval.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
College degree and/or professional designation preferred.
Must have minimum 10 years’ experience underwriting management liability and/or professional liability insurance lines – specifically Fiduciary, D&O, EPL, Cyber, Crime, Investment Advisors and/or E&O insurance
established/existing relationships with retail or wholesale brokers that specialize in management liability insurance
experience underwriting private companies preferred
Ability to function well in a team as well as with people from all levels of the industry, internally and externally.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Detail oriented with strong mathematical skills.
Self-motivator; ability to take initiative; possesses drive.
Ability to present oneself in a professional manner.
Customer service oriented.
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

Disclosure required under applicable state or municipality regulations: The expected salary range for this position is $125,000 to $175,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
