Requirements
  • Must be a Registered Nurse with a current license to practice in Pennsylvania or New Jersey for the Warren Campus.
  • Alternatively, be a graduate of an accredited nursing program with a Temporary Practice Permit issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
  • Nursing students must have prospective Spring, Summer, or Winter graduation dates and be eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination and obtain licensure before the internship starts.
  • Experienced Registered Nurses may apply if they have not worked in acute care or have less than one year of acute-care experience.
  • Must meet the stated physical and sensory requirements, including lifting, carrying, pushing, patient transport, standing, walking, bending, reaching, hearing, and vision capabilities.
Responsibilities
  • Participate in a full-time, competency-based acute-care internship tailored to the individual adult learner.
  • Perform in-depth, systematic assessments of all assigned patients.
  • Formulate collaborative and individualized plans of care and identify expected patient outcomes using the nursing process.
  • Prioritize patient care while utilizing available resources cooperatively with ancillary, nursing, and other patient-team personnel to maintain professional nursing practice standards.
  • Function as a professional role model and resource person by providing guidance to co-workers.
  • Demonstrate the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance when interacting with internal and external customers.
  • Maintain confidentiality of materials handled within the Network and ensure proper release of information.
  • Comply with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
  • Complete seminars, workshops, supervised hands-on training, simulation, and clinical preceptorship as part of the internship.
  • Upon successful completion, practice in a St. Luke’s acute-care unit caring for patients across their lifespans.
