Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field and a minimum of three years of experience working in construction in a similar or related position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in commercial HVAC service.
  • Three to five years of experience estimating HVAC mechanical service.
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment submittal data and Operations and Maintenance manuals.
  • Strong personal computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write correspondence; and effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group situations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rates, ratios, and percentages; and draw and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to written, oral, or diagrammed instructions and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work in an office environment and occasionally in the field.
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard and telephone, stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Work with the sales team and operations management to estimate mechanical service and preventive maintenance costs.
  • Prepare quality estimates for the repair and installation of mechanical equipment and mechanical systems.
  • Issue clear and appropriate Requests for Information when required.
  • Assemble accurate and well-organized estimates in a timely manner.
  • Organize subcontractor and vendor quotations and ensure that quotes meet contract documents.
  • Maintain relationships with subcontractors and clients.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and evaluate subcontractor bid packages.
  • Attend pre-bid walkthroughs periodically.
  • Work with salespeople to clearly identify project scope.
  • Participate in turnover meetings and work with service technicians and area service managers to define scope and materials.
  • Manage projects to margin expectations.
  • Manage customer expectations.
  • Provide project closeout and documentation as required.
  • Communicate with sales, service administration and operations, and the area service manager during the project and at its conclusion.
  • Work with service administration and operations to close out projects, bill customers, and collect payments.
Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency with mechanical estimating software.
  • Graduation from a recognized engineering or construction management program.
  • A mix of field and office experience.
