Requirements
  • Two years of experience in a business service setting.
  • Experience communicating effectively both verbally and in writing in a professional setting.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all registration functions necessary to ensure clean-claim processing, including obtaining and processing patient demographic, visit, and financial information.
  • Use Patient Secure to identify the accurate patient medical record while adhering to EMTALA regulations.
  • Conduct face-to-face interviews with patients and/or their designated representatives.
  • Identify and deliver regulatory documents and secure patient financial responsibility.
  • Provide patients with estimate letters according to department guidelines.
  • Request, negotiate, receive, process, and secure patient payments, and update Centricity visit comments.
  • Complete insurance verification and evaluation, enter insurance information into Centricity Insurance Verification, and search for potential coverage when insurance information is unavailable.
  • Use Coordination of Benefits standards to prioritize the billing order of insurance plans.
  • Complete Medicare Secondary Payer questionnaires and validate insurance eligibility electronically when applicable.
  • Validate the primary medical group for Health Maintenance Organization patients and notify clinical staff about out-of-network patients.
  • Estimate patient out-of-pocket responsibility, collect payments, and communicate unusual coverage or out-of-network situations to patients and leadership.
  • Interview unfunded or underfunded patients, enter financial screening results into Pointcare, provide potential coverage options, and record outcomes through the X8 function.
  • Complete the Hospital Presumptive Eligibility process when appropriate and document financial-screening outcomes in Centricity visit comments.
  • Follow the self-pay process to discuss Sharp's out-of-pocket expectations.
  • Use AIDET, key words at key times, and On-Stage Behavior while supporting patient satisfaction.
  • Communicate with patients and others orally and in writing, using tact and empathy during stressful situations and frequent interruptions.
  • Protect patient privacy during communications and adapt communication methods as needed.
  • Negotiate with others, handle minor complaints, settle disputes and conflicts, and perform service recovery according to department standards.
  • Identify solutions to issues not covered by verbal or written instructions.
  • Prioritize responsibilities, keep management informed of backlogs or slow volume, and round on patients when volumes are low.
  • Process patients timely according to department standards, including quality audits, time, and production measurements.
  • Assist coworkers and request assistance as needed, inform patients and families about admission delays when permitted, and contribute to departmental productivity.
  • Provide ongoing support for department and hospital needs as directed by leadership.
  • Collect, log, secure, and release patient valuables according to hospital policy when applicable.
  • Update Patient Type, Bed Placement, Accommodation Code, and Attending Physician fields when applicable.
  • For ED Unit Clerk duties, handle Emergency Department calls, document consultations and ancillary-service calls in the electronic medical record, obtain records, facilitate transfers, create and organize charts, compile workers' compensation paperwork, monitor ED cafe supplies, and enter discharge disposition information into the patient admission-discharge-transfer application.
  • For Customer Information Center duties, initiate emergency department code calls using the overhead paging system and online code log, answer phone lines after business hours, and monitor alarm panels.
  • Authenticate or enroll patients using the Patient Secure palm scanner or at least two patient identifiers.
  • Notify DUPREG and document potential duplicate or overlapping registrations.
  • Populate demographic screens and follow registration procedures for Doe and trauma patients.
  • Update regulatory demographic fields, secure patient signatures on address attestations, document accident-related details, and follow documentation procedures for homeless patients.
  • Observe EMTALA requirements by withholding financial discussions until after medical screening is complete.
  • Review Conditions of Admission and update Centricity fields related to advance healthcare directives, publication preferences, privacy practices, and patient rights.
  • Deliver and document required Tricare, Medicare, Medicare Outpatient Observation, and Outpatient Observation notices and forms.
  • Request and enter Primary Care Provider information and initiate the Health Information Exchange process when appropriate.
  • Address outstanding Centricity Alerts Manager alerts according to departmental workflow.
  • Secure, scan, and index Access Service documents to the correct form or identifier.
Desired Qualifications
  • A high-school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience communicating and discussing personal and financial matters with patients and/or their representatives.
  • HFMA certifications.

Fewer than a dozen hospitals in California - and just three dozen nationwide - have earned this designation. Donate your vintage treasures for the Hospital Auxiliary's Summer Fair fundraiser. * May 14, 2026 Updated May 14, 2026 * 0 The Sharp Coronado Hospital Auxiliary is hosting its Summer Fair on Friday, June 5, from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the hospital's Sandermann Auditorium at 265 Soledad Place. At last fall's Holiday Fair, Auxiliary Volunteer Mari Gilbert introduced her fun vintage items of family heirlooms and collectibles for sale. Gilbert assured the fundraising planners, "If it's old, somebody wants it!" Purchasing "Vintage" is a current trend to recycle items instead of discarding them in landfills. And to relive a time past. Clothing, handbags, china, toys, and games all play a part. At Gilbert's booth, look for 80's to today's fashion, including denim, leather jackets, designer items, rock and roll t-shirts, and jewelry for both men and women. If you are looking for a Father's Day gift, consider a military or nautical collectible, print, or antique. What are some of the more unusual things that will be available? Check out Hotel del Coronado memorabilia from the 1930s when Gilbert's grandmother actually lived there. Coronadonewsca need donations! Given their popularity, the Auxiliary is asking for residents to consider donating items that are taking up too much room at home or in their storage units! Do you have an 80's big shoulder pad jacket hanging in your closet? Your child's old lunch box with Roy Rogers or Star Wars characters can become someone's new treasure. An evening bag, costume jewelry, old Levi's, luggage from 1950, and nearly anything military or nautical will make a perfect donation for a great cause. They will be sold at the Fair, and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the hospital. No furniture or large items can be accepted due to space constraints. A portion of their sales will be donated to the Auxiliary, the nonprofit organization that supports the hospital's programs and projects. Home decor, handmade newborn outfits, charcuterie boards, bottle carriers, housewares, cloth carry bags, handcrafted greeting cards, jewelry, homemade jams, and hostess gifts will be for sale. Specialty Accessories, a favorite vendor, will have a large selection of clothing for sale. Pouch Leather Bags is returning with many sizes and colors. Once again, Pampered Chef will be displaying their amazing range of cooking tools. The Auxiliary's Quilt and Afghan Committee will be selling lap quilts and other handmade textile creations. Approximately 80 items are made each year and then donated to clients at the Villa or in hospice care. The Holiday and Summer Fairs are the only times they are available for sale. 100% of their sale price is donated to the Auxiliary. Sharp Rees-Stealy opens 75,000 sq ft medical centre in Chula Vista with 375-space car park

PMB, a healthcare real estate developer, has completed a 75,000-square-foot medical outpatient building for Sharp Rees-Stealy in Chula Vista, California. The three-storey facility consolidates services from two existing sites, offering expanded primary, urgent, specialty and rehabilitation care. Located at Chula Vista Center Mall on H Street, the building features imaging services, laboratory facilities, a pharmacy, and multiple specialty departments including cardiology, neurology and sports medicine. A 127,000-square-foot parking structure with 375 spaces connects to the medical centre via a second-floor pedestrian bridge. The project continues PMB's partnership with Sharp HealthCare dating back to the 1970s. HGW served as architect, with Pacific Building Group as general contractor. PMB has developed over 130 healthcare facilities totalling approximately 6.5 million square feet.
