Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Two years of related work experience in grounds maintenance and/or repair are required.
  • A current and valid Washington State driver’s license is required.
  • Knowledge of basic math, safe work practices, and equipment maintenance and repair is required.
  • Ability to read and write, communicate clearly and concisely, maintain accurate records, complete required reports, follow verbal and written instructions, operate and care for tools and equipment, observe safety requirements, perform regular physical activity, attend required training, and work varying shifts is required.
  • Ability to frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move more than 100 pounds is required.
  • Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor weather conditions, including exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration, and occasional electrical shock, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, prioritize, and organize the daily workload with or without assistance from a supervisor.
  • Take the lead to direct, train, and work alongside other Exterior Grounds Maintenance Workers.
  • Receive and follow up on grounds maintenance work orders and provide daily logs, weekly progress reports, and other required records.
  • Operate hand and power tools, including saws, axes, drills, weed eaters, blowers, shovels, rakes, and hoes.
  • Maintain an inventory of equipment and program vehicles and recommend repairs, replacement, maintenance, and services.
  • Clear and remove brush and blackberries around houses, government buildings, property lines, outbuildings, woodsheds, generators, and HVAC equipment.
  • Service and repair irrigation systems and regulate irrigation timers.
  • Safely maintain mulch within children’s parks and monitor park equipment for necessary repairs.
  • Sweep and clean exterior communities, roads, yard perimeters, and park areas as requested.
  • Weed, mulch, and maintain flower and landscape beds.
  • Respond to emergency irrigation system and maintenance repair calls as needed.
  • Perform a wide range of office and field duties as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete required reports.
  • Monitor the work of staff and train staff.
  • Maintain cooperative work relationships and arrive at work on time.
