  • Postgraduate degrees or related experience may substitute for the education or experience on a year-for-year basis
Responsibilities
  • Manage Planners and Senior Planners in specialized and technical land use planning and development work in a diverse jurisdiction that includes urban, suburban, rural, and wilderness areas
  • Review and approve staff reports and planning documents prepared by planning staff
  • Provide status updates on applications: applicants, community stakeholders, and other planning work program items to the Planning and Zoning Commissioners, Board of Adjustment members, Maricopa County Supervisors, and County Departments
  • Continuous improvement of the implementation of the Tyler permitting system, including automation of performance measures
  • Continuous assessments of the County’s planning work program to propose process improvements and regulatory reform
  • Review, edit, and present reports prepared for the Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Supervisors, and Board of Adjustment to ensure they convey information succinctly, accurately, and efficiently
  • Read, interpret, and explain county ordinances and state statutes related to land use planning and development
  • Oversee processing of land use planning and development applications for comprehensive plan amendments, zone changes, special use permits, subdivision plats, variances, zoning exemptions, administrative land uses, etc.
  • Manage mandated processing deadlines, both internal and for statutory public notice
  • Other job duties as assigned
