Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience.
  • Working knowledge of 2D/3D computer-aided design software, including Inventor, CATIA, SolidWorks, or Creo.
  • Design experience with structural enclosures, mechanical assemblies, HVAC systems, mechanical piping, firefighting systems, and power generation.
  • Experience with problem solving, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Experience creating Bills of Materials and using Change Notice processes.
  • Travel of 10–25%.
Responsibilities
  • Design and specify mechanical and electro-mechanical parts and assemblies for renewable energy, microgrid, electric vehicle charging, cryptocurrency mining, and data center products.
  • Support the design and qualification of mechanical components, subsystems, multilevel assemblies, and system architecture.
  • Work with other disciplines to understand customer and market requirements and design products for manufacturability and assembly.
  • Support products through the Product Development Process and support service and aftermarket needs.
  • Coordinate work with other individuals to meet project requirements, timelines, and goals.
  • Translate high-level requirements into detailed requirements and designs.
  • Provide guidance to designers and less experienced engineers in design activities.
  • Review technical drawings and mechanical specifications for proper application in mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Support the design of mechanical components and subsystems for power and low-voltage products, including component selection, general layouts, assembly design, and installation.
  • Perform complex design calculations and review others' work for correctness.
  • Study and apply government and industry standards governing the products being developed.
  • Produce mechanical layouts, mechanical component prints, mechanical assemblies, and compliance documents.
  • Interact regularly with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Industrial Engineering staff.
  • Participate in and present technical information during design meetings and reviews.
  • Create 2D prints and 3D models for piece-part components.
  • Create complex 3D layouts of top-level and sub-level assemblies.
  • Develop product Bill of Material structures to support product modularity and configurability.
  • Prepare Bills of Materials and Change Notices to release components and assemblies.
  • Support costing activities to achieve project-level pricing targets.
  • Create technical manuals for operation and maintenance of related products.
  • Self-check work for accuracy against established drawing, design, and specification standards.
  • Provide technical assistance for prototype and pilot builds and production support as needed.
  • Work with suppliers to integrate components into higher-level system designs.
  • Support service, aftermarket, and installation teams as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Eight years of product design experience.
  • Design experience with electrical components or equipment in the energy industry.
  • Design experience with programming languages and controls software.
  • Manufacturing and field support experience.
  • Ability to lead designers and other engineers.
