Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in public contact work that included applying and implementing rules, regulations, or established policies, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred training and certifications include OSHA 10 training, CPR/AED certification, UNLV Student of Concern Training, and Rebel Support Training.
Responsibilities
  • Provide consistent customer service while overseeing and maintaining safety and loss prevention for the University Libraries and their branches.
  • Supervise up to 10 safety student employees and ensure they are trained and prepared to handle building evacuations, library opening and closing, difficult situations, emergencies, and general questions.
  • Conduct visual checks through camera monitors or direct observation, monitor State property, displays, and individuals entering and leaving library buildings, and take action according to campus and department policy.
  • Oversee buildings by checking windows, locks, doors, damage, and possible security breaches, and follow established procedures when security or safety violations occur.
  • Monitor the physical safety condition of library buildings, including electrical, structural, and mechanical systems, and report failures and deficiencies to the Service Excellence and Safety Manager and the Libraries Director of Facilities.
  • Enforce University and Libraries policies, rules, and regulations by verbally warning or trespassing violators as needed.
  • Interact with State and local law enforcement agencies and other personnel to maintain the safety and security of the Libraries, branches, surrounding property, and community members.
  • Assist visitors by providing or obtaining accurate information and directions, answering questions, explaining library rules and procedures, referring visitors to appropriate staff, and providing necessary forms.
  • Maintain proper use, control, and accountability of keys.
  • Lead building evacuations or emergency situations in the absence of the Service Excellence and Safety Manager, providing direction to library staff on duty.
  • Provide accurate and timely emergency communications, administer first aid, coordinate with local law enforcement agencies, and complete required forms and reports.
