  • A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience.
  • Must have a valid Professional Engineer's License before the hire date.
Responsibilities
  • Guide, mentor, and review deliverables from project engineers throughout the life cycle of transmission projects.
  • Provide engineering and technical expertise and guidance in identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex problems within the area of expertise, while assessing long-term and system-wide impacts.
  • Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor work activities to accomplish business goals and objectives where limited standardization exists.
  • Conduct engineering and related studies with full technical responsibility for planning and coordinating complex projects.
  • Apply extensive technical expertise to manage projects and disseminate knowledge to enhance the organizational unit's competitive position.
  • Analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes and standards relevant to the assigned area.
  • Keep abreast of new developments, technologies, procedures, and equipment.
  • Develop positive working relationships to coordinate work activities effectively.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Maintain accurate records and files.
  • Support the company's goals and represent the company positively and professionally.
  • Coach and mentor engineering and non-degreed engineering professionals.
  • Guide and mentor project engineers through their projects.

  • Understanding of typical transmission line project life cycles.
  • Skilled in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to mentor teammates of all skill levels and build team chemistry.

Duke Energy cuts Eastern NC and Asheville rate increase from 15.1% to 9.3%

Duke Energy Progress has agreed to reduce its proposed rate increase for customers in eastern North Carolina and the Asheville area from 15.1% to 9.3% over two years. The average residential customer will pay an additional $9.62 per month starting January, plus $5.89 more beginning January 2028. The settlement also caps Duke's return on equity at 9.8%. This follows significant pushback from state leaders and customers after Duke Energy reported $5 billion in profits in 2025 and over $1 billion in net income last quarter. The North Carolina Utilities Commission will review the proposal starting 11 August, with a final decision expected this autumn. Duke Energy Carolinas previously lowered its rate increase to 9.5%. Both Duke utilities will merge into one by 1 January 2026.
