Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Perfusion Program is required.
  • A Certified Clinical Perfusionist certification from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion is required.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • A perfusionist professional license in the applicable state of work location is required.
  • The role requires constant standing and walking, frequent lifting or carrying and pushing or pulling objects weighing 0-25 pounds, frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use or data entry, and the ability to hear alarms and malfunctioning machinery.
  • The role requires occasional lifting or carrying and pushing or pulling objects weighing 25-50 pounds, as well as occasional bending, stooping, climbing, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, twisting, and repetitive foot, leg, hand, and arm movements.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare for procedures by performing patient assessments.
  • Perform perfusion and other procedures, including monitoring anticoagulation, electrolyte, acid-base, and blood-gas status throughout procedures and taking appropriate action to resolve imbalances.
  • Set up and operate extracorporeal devices used for temporary replacement or support of cardiac or pulmonary function.
  • Administer pharmacological agents, anesthetic agents, and blood products as necessary during operation of extracorporeal devices.
  • Set up and initiate intra-aortic balloon pump therapy.
  • Set up and operate autologous blood processing devices.
  • Ensure that perfusion packs, equipment, and supplies are available for scheduled and emergency surgeries.
  • Perform assembly, maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of equipment and maintain adequate supplies.
  • Provide proper documentation of assessments, activities, and procedures.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least one year of perfusion experience is preferred.
  • Prior academic medical center experience is strongly preferred.
