Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a field inspector of civil construction, including earthworks, utilities, surface improvements, and related infrastructure.
  • Registered or qualified to register as a Technician or Technologist with ASET is an asset.
  • Knowledge of local municipal construction standards and specifications.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • A strong safety mindset with adherence to company, contractor, and occupational health and safety standards and regulations.
  • The ability to problem-solve in a time-sensitive environment.
  • The ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
  • The ability to manage time effectively and meet firm deadlines.
  • A valid provincial driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs, including Microsoft Office.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Engineer’s primary field contact with contractors, franchise utilities, municipal representatives, the general public, and clients.
  • Review and understand engineering design drawings and other technical documentation for site development and capital works projects.
  • Perform field observations to ensure compliance with standards, specifications, and contractual obligations.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inspection reports as required.
  • Perform erosion and sediment control inspections and prepare related reports as required.
  • Review and understand construction contracts and conduct contract administration by referring to and enforcing contractual terms throughout construction and post-construction.
  • Review contractor invoicing and prepare monthly progress payments.
  • Liaise with clients, municipal staff, contractors, and residents.
  • Attend meetings with clients, contractors, and municipal staff; make notes and records for project documentation; and follow through on action items in a timely manner.
  • Review draft and final as-constructed drawings to ensure the information accurately reflects work performed in the field.
  • Assist the Project Manager in preparing tenders, cost estimates, and project schedules.
  • Conduct substantial completion and final acceptance certificate inspections, prepare applications including security reductions, and ensure deficiencies are documented and rectified for project close-out.
