Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the human services field, such as mental health, substance abuse, homelessness, or domestic violence services, is required.
  • The ability to build strong working relationships with clients and team members is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed is required.
  • An annual tuberculosis test is required.
  • The ability to sit or stand for long periods is required.
  • The ability to lift items weighing 10-20 pounds is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide essential 24-hour awake coverage and supervision of the 50-bed shelter.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for client needs and support.
  • Perform crisis intervention and facilities management.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the front desk and maintain a positive living environment within the shelter.
  • Ensure the shelter functions safely and maintain a safe environment for clients.
  • Monitor visitor check-in, front desk calls, and inquiries.
  • Perform rounds and monitor the inside and outside grounds of the building.
  • Update the daily log by documenting client interactions and other significant shelter events.
  • Work closely with case managers to support and reinforce clients' service plans and maintain ongoing communication about client progress.
  • Complete efficient shift exchanges with incoming and outgoing staff and report the day's activities to maintain consistency.
  • Ensure all shelter log documentation is completed in compliance with agency best practices.
  • Evaluate and provide for clients' basic needs while on shift, including distributing household items, toiletries, and other supplies.
  • Perform residential cleaning, including light touch-ups and washing shelter linens.
  • Organize and restock household supplies, toiletries, linens, towels, and donations.
  • Perform unit inspections.
  • Maintain the dignity and confidentiality of all clients during service delivery.
  • Maintain current knowledge of and ability to administer emergency procedures, including building evacuation, health emergencies, and safety management.
  • Accept donations and support volunteer programs and events in the shelter.
  • Participate in staff meetings and staff training as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with agency policies and best practices.
  • Use Microsoft applications and products, including email, calendar, drive, and documents, in day-to-day work.
  • Serve as emergency personnel and report to work as scheduled regardless of inclement weather, highway congestion, or other circumstances.
  • Perform other duties necessary to support the program and agency.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in human services or a related field is preferred.
  • One year of customer service experience is preferred.
  • Experience working in programs serving homeless families is preferred.
  • Experience working in a residential environment is preferred.
  • Current CPR and first aid certification is preferred.
