Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Hold a current state Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • Current Basic Life Support or Basic Cardiac Life Support certification, or completion within 90 days of hire.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification, or completion within 90 days of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is required if pediatric care is included in the facility’s scope of services, or completion within 90 days of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized perioperative plans of care for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
  • Advocate for patient safety, rights, dignity, and privacy.
  • Administer medications safely using the 8 Rights of Medication Administration.
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures, including moderate sedation and monitored anesthesia care.
  • Perform ongoing assessments and interventions to maintain physiologic stability and prevent infection.
  • Ensure proper scope and equipment preparation and recognize and troubleshoot malfunctions.
  • Practice aseptic technique and adhere to infection-prevention standards.
  • Educate patients and support persons regarding procedures, recovery, and care expectations.
  • Communicate patient status and provide accurate hand-off reports.
  • Document care accurately and timely.
  • Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Participate in quality improvement, training, and safety huddles.
  • Comply with SCA policies, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines.
Desired Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year of GI, operating room, and/or medical-surgical nursing experience.
  • Specialty certification in GI Nursing.
