What believers are saying

  • Jalapeño delivers roughly 50% lower inference cost per token than GPUs, creating high-margin revenue[3][5].
  • AI semiconductor revenue projected to exceed $100 billion by 2027, driven by networking chips and custom accelerators[3][4].
  • Apple deal secures ~20% of annual revenue despite Apple's in-house chip ambitions, stabilizing cash flow[2][5].

What critics are saying

  • OpenAI fails to secure Microsoft's 40% chip commitment, forcing Broadcom to shoulder $18B financing risk for 1.3GW capacity in 6–12 months[report].
  • Jalapeño's 50% cost advantage undermines networking chip margins as hyperscalers shift to custom ASICs within 12–18 months[report].
  • Apple accelerating in-house modem/silicon beyond 2028 could cut Broadcom's 20% revenue share by 15–25% within 18–24 months[report].

What makes Broadcom Limited unique

  • Broadcom co-designs Jalapeño, the first custom LLM inference ASIC with OpenAI, deployed by late 2026[1][2].
  • The company secures a $30 billion Apple chip supply deal through 2031, validating custom AI leadership[2][5].
  • Broadcom designs custom AI accelerators for Google, Meta, and OpenAI, targeting over $100 billion AI revenue by 2027[3][4].

AI hardware stocks show strong financial performance despite bubble fears

A Motley Fool survey found that 41% of investors believe AI stock prices have reached speculative levels and are likely in a bubble. However, recent financial results from leading AI hardware companies suggest otherwise. Nvidia's sales rose 73% to $68.1 billion in Q4 2026, with non-GAAP earnings per share up 82%. TSMC's earnings increased 35% and revenue jumped 21% to $33.7 billion in Q4 2025. Broadcom's sales grew 29% to $19.3 billion, with non-GAAP earnings per share rising 28% in Q1 2026. Each company holds dominant market positions: Nvidia controls 86% of the AI data centre processor market, TSMC manufactures 70% of the world's processors, and Broadcom is estimated to hold 60% of the application-specific integrated circuit market by next year.
