Requirements
  • Applicable state or county licensure is required.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, portion, and serve food according to the menu cycle and standardized recipes.
  • Taste and prepare food to determine quality.
  • Prepare special dietary meals as directed by the Dining Services Director or assigned menus.
  • Determine food and supply needs and coordinate meal production with serving hours.
  • Document temperature logs, taste panel forms, and cleaning schedules.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new kitchen staff.
  • Handle food safely and appropriately.
  • Follow safety and loss prevention procedures.
  • Attend required in-service sessions.
  • Maintain infection control standards according to Cedarhurst guidelines.
  • Apply basic mathematical concepts, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions, to practical situations.
  • Maintain appropriate food temperatures by following cooling and heating procedures and ensuring equipment operates properly.
  • Maintain current food safety licensing requirements and follow guidelines established by the Food and Drug Administration and state, county, and local authorities.
  • Communicate with residents’ families about residents’ physical, personal, and emotional wellbeing as directed through community staff.
  • Take direction from management, use initiative, and engage in conflict intervention and resolution for residents, families, employees, and others as needed.
  • Participate in staff activities that support teamwork, unity, and morale.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience as a cook is preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation or Basic Life Support certification is preferred.
