Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering or a related engineering discipline is required.
  • At least 2 years of water treatment design experience is required.
  • An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) credential, Professional Engineer (PE) license, active pursuit of PE registration in a state where Apex works, or the ability to obtain PE registration by reciprocity is required.
  • A valid United States driver's license and clean driving record are required.
  • The ability to communicate and interact effectively within project teams and with clients is required.
  • The ability to direct activities of less experienced staff is required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and other computer-based technical software specific to the discipline is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare technical memoranda, reports, calculations, correspondence, designs, drawings, specifications, permit applications, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates for less complex projects or discrete tasks on more complex projects under the direct supervision of senior staff.
  • Assist the Project Manager and senior staff with assigned project schedules and budgets by reporting project progress and identifying additional work outside the contractual scope of work.
  • Work with subconsultants under the direction of the Senior Project Engineer or Project Manager.
  • Serve as Lead Designer on less complex projects or discrete tasks on more complex projects by coordinating and communicating with the project team.
  • Review discipline-specific calculations, design assumptions, and concepts for quality control.
  • Provide technical input into proposals by developing scopes of work, budgets, and schedules based on historical information or experience.
  • Assist with technical presentations and participate in client meetings and technical presentations.
  • Work within established hourly budgets and monitor self-performance.
  • Develop expertise in pertinent local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships on technical issues through frequent and regular communication as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Lead fieldwork, including reviewing existing facility conditions, conducting laboratory and sampling work, evaluating existing infrastructure performance, and observing construction and startup activities.
  • Assist with construction administration by tracking and reviewing submittals, preparing meeting agendas and minutes, reviewing and compiling construction reports, and tracking construction schedules.
  • Provide updates to the Senior Project Engineer and/or Project Manager.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff and provide on-the-job training and mentoring for entry-level engineers and interns.
  • Develop writing and presentation skills and present data supporting technical decisions and their rationale.
Desired Qualifications
  • CAD proficiency and experience in technical report writing are ideal.
  • Experience with 3D drafting and building information modeling products such as Plant 3D, Revit, or Navisworks is a plus.
  • Prior experience working in engineering consulting is strongly preferred.
