Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field and four or more years of experience in public relations or communications, or a high school diploma with six or more years of experience supporting social media and content operations.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally, collaboratively, and effectively.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Expertise in Associated Press style.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Experience supporting storytelling across multiple communication channels.
  • Experience working with creative teams, vendors, or agencies in a management role.
  • Ability to follow established processes and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Commitment to the YMCA's mission and values.
  • Reliable transportation for local travel in the metro Atlanta area.
  • Ability to pass background and motor vehicle record checks.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check including a criminal record check, drug screening, motor vehicle record check, and reference check according to company policy.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a point of contact for local and national media.
  • Create and distribute media communications, including press releases, media advisories, and pitches.
  • Secure, plan, and facilitate media visits, remain on-call during visits, and execute post-visit follow-up.
  • Secure, prepare, and facilitate media opportunities and interviews.
  • Develop and review talking points and prepare staff and partners for media interviews.
  • Manage and direct the public relations agency of record on a day-to-day basis.
  • Support crisis communications planning and execution as directed by the Vice President of Communications.
  • Develop and execute internal communications plans aligned with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with association teams and branches to distribute key updates and resources.
  • Monitor intranet engagement and recommend improvements.
  • Manage content on the YMCA's website, including the blog and media room, as well as the employee intranet.
  • Collaborate with the Content and Communications Specialist, marketing communications team, and other internal and external partners on story ideas and content distribution.
  • Assist with and collaborate on larger strategic YMCA of Metro Atlanta marketing efforts.
  • Maintain active knowledge of the YMCA's offerings and new developments.
  • Report on earned media and showcase public relations performance with measurement analytics.
  • Report on and recommend optimizations for employee intranet performance.
  • Represent the YMCA of Metro Atlanta at local events and industry functions.
  • Perform additional administrative duties and special projects as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or marketing, or higher.
  • Six or more years of experience in public relations.
  • Agency experience.

The Atlanta Voice celebrates 60 years with a Midday Open House of impact & inspiration. The Atlanta Voice opened its doors to the community for a joyful Midday Open House, marking six decades of storytelling, advocacy, and community connection. The celebration was more than an anniversary - it was a vibrant reflection of the publication's mission to inform, uplift, and empower Metro Atlanta. Throughout the afternoon, guests enjoyed a lively drop-in experience that blended nostalgia with forward-thinking energy. From guided peeks into current initiatives to sneak previews of what's launching next, visitors got a firsthand look at how The Atlanta Voice continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. WAREhouse Studio buzzed with conversation as longtime supporters, community partners, and new friends mingled with The Atlanta Voice staff. Laughter and stories filled the air as attendees shared memories of the publication's impact and envisioned the next 60 years together. Light bites, sweet treats, and refreshing drinks kept the celebration flowing, with a special thank you to its incredible vendors - 360 Photo Booth Eventz, World Renowned Catering, Courtney's Creations of Atlanta, and Jailan Jagne - for adding flavor, fun, and flair to the day. "This milestone isn't just about where we've been - it's about where we're headed," said Publisher Janis Ware. "The Atlanta Voice has always been about amplifying the voices of our community, and that mission continues stronger than ever." The Atlanta Voice were deeply honored to welcome Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, who stopped by to share reflections and gratitude for The Atlanta Voice's legacy of truth-telling and community service. His words inspired the crowd and reminded everyone how local journalism continues to shape the future of its city. The Atlanta Voice also extend heartfelt thanks to Fulton County Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington Jr., who presented an official proclamation recognizing The Atlanta Voice's 60 years of excellence and enduring service to Metro Atlanta.
