Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required.
  • One year of experience in a hospital setting and patient-care capacity is required.
  • EKG Technician training or equivalent is required.
  • Prior telemetry or EKG experience is required.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor and visualize patients’ EKG rhythms against predetermined parameters using telemetry monitoring equipment.
  • Document patients’ rhythms, report cardiac activity, and provide recordings of changes as requested.
  • Notify appropriate professional staff, registered nurses, attending physicians, and house staff physicians of changes in patients’ EKG patterns.
  • Input, update, and retrieve information from the telemetry monitoring equipment.
  • Observe the cardiac monitor screen and listen for alarms to identify abnormal variations in heart rhythm.
  • Notify nursing and Biomedical Engineering personnel of telemetry equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintain the inventory of supplies for telemetry equipment.
  • Perform activities that ensure the appropriate, accurate, and safe functioning of equipment.

  • Attendance in a telemetry course is preferred.
