Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s or Advanced Degree (PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline) preferred
  • 3 years of relevant experience required
  • Experience working in an academic medical center and with NIH-funded research preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities: Experience with Azure/AWS or other cloud platform development/deployment
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities: Experience with statistical programming and data visualization using R/Bioconductor and UNIX/Linux programming
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities: Experience with interface, networking, and data warehousing technologies, as well as design, relational database technologies, and performance tuning
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities: Proven track record executing multiple work streams and producing consistent results
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities: Able to create novel techniques, programs and systems by innovation or by extracting/synthesizing features or elements from other systems, databases and/or programs at all phases inception, design, testing, implementation, evaluation and future progression and development
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to create a cascade of interrelated experiments, programs and/or systems that execute, analyze and construct upon the previous and in scientific succession

Responsibilities
  • Advanced BIOSTATISTICS CONSULTING PRE-AWARD Provide biostatistical consultation prior to grant submissions for study design, analysis, and interpretation
  • Complex Statistical ANALYSIS FOR GRANTS AND MANUSCRIPTS Conduct statistical analyses using appropriate and reproducible methods. Advise on data structure, data quality, missing data, and analytic assumptions
  • GRANT DEVELOPMENT and Strategic research SUPPORT Support grant development (e.g., NIH, society, foundation, industry), including power/sample size calculations and statistical methods sections
  • MANUSCRIPT DEVELOPMENT AND REPORTING Contribute to manuscripts, including statistical methods, results, tables, and figures; participate as a co-author when appropriate. Ensure compliance with institutional, regulatory, and reporting standards
  • COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION: Work closely with research teams to translate biological questions into computational solutions. Present technical progress and challenges clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • TRAINING AND ADMINSTRATIVE DUTIES Provide statistical guidance to trainees and faculty. Work with the surgery research office to update regarding ongoing activities and future biostatistical needs
Desired Qualifications
  • Expert knowledge of statistical methods to translate complex data into actionable insights
  • Ability to work independently using professional judgement in selecting statistical methods
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis and predictive modeling
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to contribute to grants, peer-reviewed publications, and research demands
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency in coding ability (R, SAS, Stata) for data processing and analysis, Advanced statistical analysis, or similar statistical software
  • Familiarity with clinical research and bringing advanced analysis to different research faculty
  • Data engineering, programming, scientific data management, statistical methods for scientific and clinical research
  • Web interface, design and development experience, Javascript, Python/Flask or related programming experience, including source control tools such as GIT
