The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Research Aide to join the team in Albany, NY. A successful candidate will be community-oriented, passionate about drinking water quality and/or community health, have strong organizational and communication (oral and written) skills, and be skilled at working independently.
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Compiling and formatting existing and incoming data
- Conducting fieldwork to sample environmental media (soil, sediments, surface water, groundwater) and support logistics of said fieldwork
- Reviewing relevant literature
- Reviewing and evaluating reports and invoices for completeness and accuracy
- Coordinating contract management
- Overseeing contractors/labs activities and reports
- Supporting the writing of peer reviewed papers.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in and 2-4 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Familiarity with creating and maintaining mapping and GIS projects for internet and internal use
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to understand scientific and health concepts, and communicate science with nonexperts.
- Ability to work towards multiple objectives simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently, and to serve as both a leader and a follower.
- Well organized and able to maintain large datasets.
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with tribal communities is not required, but will be considered favorably.
Important Details about the Position
- This is a hybrid position located in Albany, NY with the expectation of 50% onsite 50% remote following the initial training period which will be 100% onsite.
- This is a full-time three-year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.
