Requirements
  • Consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five years.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a physical science (e.g., chemistry, physics) or an engineering discipline with a minimum of 12 years of experience, preferably in nuclear related assignments, including direct operations management.
  • An advanced degree at the Master's or Doctorate level is preferable for some assignments, and would reduce the experience required.
  • Specialized knowledge required varies with the assignment and includes analytical chemistry, radiochemistry, conduct of operations, nuclear facility operations (HVAC and analytical process), environmental regulatory compliance, radioactive containment, fire protection, waste characterization, project management, quality assurance, and industrial safety and hygiene; knowledge in engineering design, maintenance management, and construction practices is beneficial.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with computers and various software applications; knowledge of Savannah River Site administrative and business systems; and prior assignments in planning/project scheduling, information resources, or procurement operations are highly desirable.
  • Substantive management experience in these or a related field is preferred.
  • Additional specialized knowledge in assessment and audit techniques and practices required to accomplish routine and specialized tasks.
  • Incumbents must have or gain skills in effective communications techniques, assessment planning, time management, conflict resolution, data collection, analysis, and report writing similar to a NQA-1 auditor or lead auditor.
  • A 40 hour work week schedule is anticipated; work schedules include 5/8s, 4/10s, and 9/80s; travel and security clearance requirements may apply.
Responsibilities
  • Provide project QA guidance, compliance oversight and subject matter expertise in Integrated Safety Management and quality assurance feedback and improvement processes.
  • Plan, prepare, conduct, and report on surveillances and assessment/monitoring of quality-related activities in assigned areas.
  • Coordinate corrective action responses to external assessments, audits, or surveillances.
  • Review and interpret Site, National, and Department of Energy requirements and site procedures in the execution of Cognizant Quality Functions as the subject matter expert.
  • Review, issue, track, follow-up and closeout various deficiency documents such as Program Deficiency Reports, Nonconformance Reports, Corrective Action Reports, and Stop Work Orders.
  • Review selected Safety Class and Safety Significant engineering deliverables including Design Change Forms, Design Change Packages, Technical and procurement specifications, Supplier Deviation Disposition Requests, Quality Assessment Reports, Conceptual Design Reports, Software Quality Assurance Plans, etc.
  • Develop and communicate QA planning for the project life cycle from Conceptual Design through turnover to Operations.
  • Develop qualification programs on tasks concurrent with design and fabrication to minimize future quality problems.
  • Incorporate conventional QA engineering or scientific practices and handle complex features such as enhanced quality requirements or new processes into problem solving and program planning.
  • Provide limited guidance and direction to less senior engineering professionals.
  • Support facility/project needs by reviewing/approving procedures, procurement documents, and design output documents.
  • Evaluate proposals and make recommendations for programs/tasks in the area of assignment.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (Master's or Doctorate) is preferable for some assignments and would proportionally reduce the experience required.
  • Specialized knowledge in assessment and audit techniques and practices beyond routine tasks.
  • Extensive experience with statistical methods, data analysis, and reporting similar to NQA-1 auditor or lead auditor.
  • Security clearance eligibility or possession (Top Secret or Department of Energy Q clearance) as applicable to engagements; ability to qualify for varying background investigations.
