Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
  • Must be knowledgeable in music theory, one or more musical instruments (piano or guitar preferred).
  • Comfortable leading arts groups such as drama, painting, dance, etc.
  • Must conduct oneself in a manner that reflects credit on The Salvation Army and its leadership.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and be detail oriented.
  • Must possess a professional attitude and approach to problem-solving.
  • Must be able to relate to others well.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must have a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License, as well as qualify for The Salvation Army’s insurance.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of Pennsylvania Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by Pennsylvania Act 153 to include Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Must possess an understanding of and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
Responsibilities
  • The Music & Arts Specialist is responsible for the planning and implementation of music and arts programming for children and adults at the Haven of Hope Community Center.
  • The Music & Arts Specialist collaborates with Community Center Director to plan music and arts programs for both adults and children and implements the planned programs at the agreed-upon scheduled times.
  • The Music & Arts Specialist will collaborate with Chaplain to ensure adequate focus and time is given for evangelistic opportunities and devotionals throughout the week during the music and arts programming.
  • The Music & Arts Specialist will collaborate with Community Center Director to adequately market music and arts programming internally and externally and will collaborate with appropriate Eliza Shirley House and Red Sheild Family Residence staff as well as Haven of Hope Learning Zone Director to offer music and arts program participation to residents and Learning Zone participants.
