Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required for Patient Care Technician I.
  • For Patient Care Technician II, a high school diploma or General Educational Development credential and one qualifying requirement are required: an associate or bachelor's degree; at least one year working in a 0.6 full-time-equivalent Patient Care Technician I position at MUSC Charleston; one year of healthcare-facility experience; active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution; active enrollment in an accredited healthcare-related program; or certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant from an accredited institution.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within two weeks of hire and must be maintained through an American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification, an American Heart Association-recognized equivalent, or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider certification.
  • The employee must be able to perform the listed physical functions, including standing, sitting, walking, stair climbing, bending, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds unassisted, and exerting up to 50 pounds of force.
  • The employee must maintain the specified corrected vision, hearing acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, color discrimination, and tactile sensory capabilities.
  • The employee must be able to deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts and overtime as required, and work in a latex-safe environment.
Responsibilities
  • Report to the Nurse Manager and work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Perform multi-skilled activities that support a decentralized, patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.
