Requirements
  • Strong familiarity with NFPA-70 National Electrical Code.
  • Familiarity with New York City Building and Electrical Codes and relevant industry standards of practice in professional electrical engineering design.
  • Experience in the design of electrical power systems, including service room layouts, distribution systems, and load calculations.
  • Proficiency in the design of low-voltage systems such as public address, data/telecommunications, and security camera systems.
  • Expertise in fire alarm system design, with in-depth knowledge of FDNY requirements.
  • Knowledge of NYC Energy Conservation Code (2020) and experience with lighting and control system design.
  • Understanding of contract documents for engineering projects and the ability to administer them during the construction phase.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer (required for all levels).
  • Level A requires a valid New York State Professional Engineer license.
  • Level B requires a valid New York State Professional Engineer license and three years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project team, or squad leader.
  • Level C requires a valid New York State Professional Engineer license and six years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; three years must be as a project engineer; project, team, or squad leader; or a comparable level of responsibility.
  • Current New York State Professional Engineer license must be maintained for the duration of employment for all levels.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required for all levels.
  • Educational requirement is a Baccalaureate degree.
Responsibilities
  • Engineer A: Provide overall coordination for in-house design projects.
  • Engineer A: Perform and/or supervise the preparation of scope, pre-schematic, schematic, preliminary and construction documents including reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Engineer A: Work with a wide range of technical, professional, managerial and support personnel as well as outside consultants, contractors, vendors, and various government agencies.
  • Engineer A: May function as a project leader reporting to an Engineer B or Engineer C, Managing Engineer, or Director to plan and coordinate work with other Engineers.
  • Engineer A: Technical Inspectors working on several less complex design and construction projects, such as new schools, modernizations, additions, leased space, and CIP projects.
  • Engineer A: Perform design review of work prepared by other engineers.
  • Engineer A: Monitor the progress of the construction phase of the project.
  • Engineer A: Conduct site observations.
  • Engineer A: Prepare field reports.
  • Engineer A: Supervise the review of contractor’s submittals.
  • Engineer A: Review reports.
  • Engineer A: Perform design review of work for engineering portions of multiple projects.
  • Engineer A: Perform review for either Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) or Line Projects.
  • Engineer A: Maintain and develops general understanding of engineering principles.
  • Engineer A: May be required to sign, seal and file engineering drawings.
  • Engineer A: Perform related duties, as assigned.
  • Engineer B: Engineer B may direct lower level Engineers, Technical Inspectors, Quality Assurance Specialists, Associate Engineers, and Engineering Technicians.
  • Engineer B: Work on several more complex design projects such as large primary schools, small intermediate schools, special types of buildings (e.g., special education schools), full modernizations, large additions, and specialized and/or numerous CIP projects.
  • Engineer B: May act as a discipline leader in a department to train and develop internal staff in the discipline.
  • Engineer B: May chair or participate in department seminars and workshops.
  • Engineer B: Provides mentoring for professional development of lower level employees.
  • Engineer B: Trains new SCA employees and contingent staff, as well as outside design consultants, on SCA standards and procedures.
  • Engineer B: May coordinate the work of consulting firms and/or individual consultants and contingent staff on projects and does design review of outside consultants.
  • Engineer B: Performs related tasks.
  • Engineer B: Performs the duties of Engineer A.
  • Engineer C: The Engineer - C is responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, and manages team members and/or contractors on projects to achieve the objectives of the Authority.
  • Engineer C: Works as a project leader on multiple, complex construction projects and major design and exploration programs to plan, assign, direct, manage, and supervise the work of stakeholders such as Engineers, Quality Assurance Specialists, Technical Inspectors, Associate Engineers, and Engineering Technicians, resolving any problems that occur.
  • Engineer C: Manages multiple projects at the same time.
  • Engineer C: Ensures compliance to codes, standards, and that the project is completed on schedule.
  • Engineer C: Performs design review of work prepared by other engineers.
  • Engineer C: Assists in preparing new design standards and procedures.
  • Engineer C: May coordinate the work of consulting firms and/or individual consultants and contingent staff on projects.
  • Engineer C: May be required to sign, seal and file engineering drawings.
