Requirements
  • Degree in Biomedical Engineering, EE, Optics, Physics, or related fields.
  • PhD (experience preferred)
  • Master's with 5-8 years relevant experience
  • Optical instrumentation and system design experience
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently. Problem solver
  • Comfortable working with minimal supervision
Responsibilities
  • Be the lead subject matter expert for optics within the company
  • Selecting and integrating appropriate optical components (LEDs, photodiodes, etc.)
  • Use optical modeling software to design optical systems, custom lenses, etc.
  • Optimize (non-invasively) optical coupling to and from the human body’s surface for high SNR
  • Identify and mitigate top risks of optical integration
  • Assess sensor performance under various physiological (e.g., skin tone) and environmental conditions
  • Develop test systems to validate PPG design (component and system performance) and aid in the manufacturing verification test system when moving product to high volume ramp
  • Interact with vendors to procure parts to necessary specifications and to drive specifications to meet project objectives
  • Actively contribute to the generation of intellectual property
  • Travel to our Cypress, CA manufacturing facility and other vendors as needed
  • Develop reliability tests for optical portions of our products
  • Responsible for evaluation of failure modes, conducting root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions for the company’s products
