Requirements
  • Certification in Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist through the NMTCB.
  • Radiologist Technologist or Nuclear Medicine Technologist through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners, or applicable state where services will be performed.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Computed Tomography certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or NMTCB within 2 years of hire.
  • One (1) year of computed tomography experience.
Responsibilities
  • Prepares room, equipment, materials, as needed for patient exams, including sterile technique. Cleans and disinfects rooms and equipment following each patient exam, using current infection control policies.
  • Performs examinations per Physician’s orders and explains procedures to the patients. Documents any variations from protocol due to patient’s condition or other unknown cause and relays patient history and clinical data to Radiologist.
  • Observes patient and equipment and reports any unusual occurrences or changes. Transports and assists patients as needed.
  • Documents status of patient in reference to radiology/CT procedure on patient’s chart.
  • Documents variances repeats and other such occurrences to help maintain high quality health care and opportunity for quality improvement.
  • Maintains stock supplies, performs general office duties, responsible for proper film labeling and following prescribed techniques to assure acceptable quality and consistency.
  • Practices safe radiation exposure and protection as well as general safety for patient’s, visitors, and staff at all times.
  • Participates in the patient safety training and patient protection, including the needs and methods to report medical/healthcare errors and abuse.
  • Produces diagnostic quality images utilizing CT equipment and effectively judges CT images for proper technique to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
  • Performs diagnostic studies using mobile radiographic equipment in emergency or patient rooms as ordered by physician. Performs diagnostic studies in surgical suite with C-Arm and other equipment.
  • Provides care specific to the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • May perform IV insertion/blood draws.
  • Administer IV/Oral/Rectal contrast for CT imaging procedures per radiologist protocol/department manual and ordering physician/care provider order.
  • Utilize PACS to ensure exams are completed and available for the radiologist to read and for the referring physician/care provider review.

  • Understands the dynamics for each patient incorporating biophysical, bio-psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical and discharge planning needs.
  • Knowledge of total care of patients, whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, focusing on the control of pain and other symptoms.
