Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy or Physical Therapist Assistant with current unencumbered licensure, certification, or registration, or an associate degree in Physical Therapist Assistant with current unencumbered licensure, certification, or registration and three years of non-teaching work experience.
  • A minimum of three years of full-time or equivalent post-licensure clinical experience in physical therapy practice.
  • Contemporary expertise in neurological diseases and conditions for patients of all ages.
  • Proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other classroom technologies.
  • Proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop course content and perform administrative duties.
  • Current knowledge of the discipline and subject matter.
  • Experience using technology as an instructional aid where appropriate to enhance learning.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students with a wide range of skills and backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with varied populations, including students, staff, faculty, administration, and the local community.
  • Verbal and written communication, listening, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to maintain an established schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Ability to work in classroom or laboratory settings and perform standing, walking, sitting, lifting, and reaching for extended periods.
  • Ability to work safely, follow safety rules, and report unsafe working conditions and behavior.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and teach Physical Therapist Assistant courses to a multicultural student population using instructional strategies appropriate to community college students and discipline standards.
  • Participate in departmental responsibilities and governance, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes, and other departmental activities.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback based on program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Mentor students in the Physical Therapist Assistant program.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring services without discrimination against protected groups.
  • Maintain currency in the field through professional development activities.
  • Support division and department goals through engagement in decision-making and unit-level planning.
  • Serve on collegewide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
  • Travel to community partners and clinical sites as needed.
  • Use the college's learning management system appropriately and meet deadlines for attendance certification and final course grades.
  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve retention and success.
  • Participate in graduation, general assembly, collegewide, campus, department, and other official activities and meetings.
  • Comply with college policies, procedures, and professional standards for community college teaching.
  • Perform other related tasks assigned by the department chair, dean, or senior academic leadership.
  • Work safely and take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.
