Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. An advanced degree is considered a plus.
  • CPA or CA required.
  • 4+ years of progressive professional experience in accounting.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Financial services experience is preferred. Exposure to investment management, fund accounting, and SEC reporting, is strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail but can still see big picture.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems and to develop an effective course of action.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for accounting for Ares investment portfolio, including:
  • Accounting for capital activity, corporate actions, and valuations of debt, derivatives, and limited partnership interests across a variety of different asset classes
  • Performing accounting research, reaching accounting conclusions
  • Detailed analysis of investment income and presentation of significant drivers and changes through clear and concise management reporting
  • Ownership for analyzing, solutioning and operationalizing best in class investment accounting practices, including:
  • Seeking end-to-end accounting and reporting with minimal manual intervention once securities are booked at point of entry
  • Directing IT team to operationalize changes and efficiencies identified
  • Enhancing top down dashboard reporting for management to be able to review, reference and absorb information quickly
  • Responsibility and support of other fee streams, including:
  • Managing placement fee payments to agents, ensuring accuracy with contractual arrangements and reconciliation of payable balances timely for quarter end
  • Building good working relationships with other business functions, particularly fund accounting and investor relations
  • Detailed analysis of placement fee expense and presentation of significant drivers and changes through clear and concise management reporting
  • Contributing to various special projects including capital transactions, acquisitions, and process improvements to improve overall group efficiencies
  • Helping to automate other accounting and financial reporting requirements
  • Support internal reporting requirements and other ad-hoc requests of various internal users including other finance and accounting teams, investor relations and the front office.
  • Other duties as assigned by management
