Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s Degree and must have graduated from an approved cytotechnology program
  • 2 years of cytotechnology experience screening non-gynecological specimens, including fine needle aspirations
  • Work requires knowledge of biology, anatomy, and physiology, and detailed knowledge of cytology and cytological preparation techniques normally acquired through completion of an accredited one-year, cytotechnology program
  • CT (ASCP)
Responsibilities
  • Perform preliminary cytological interpretations for non‑gynecologic specimens.
  • Correlate clinical data with microscopic findings for accurate results.
  • Assist with FNAs, including specimen collection and adequacy assessment.
  • Follow quality control standards and troubleshoot specimen or workflow issues.
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory and safety guidelines.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and continuing education.
  • Visual acuity to microscopically examine non-gynecological cellular material to accurately identify cellular changes that indicate a health or disease state.
  • Capacity to sit, concentrate, and perform microscopy for 90% of each day.
  • Able to accurately assess diagnostic material within acceptable time limits, often under stressful conditions.
  • Perform or oversee specimen cytopreparation as needed.
