Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, which qualifies for licensure in the state of practice, is required.
  • A Professional Engineer license is required, or a Structural Engineer license with eight or more years of related practical experience with former employers.
  • Working knowledge of Building Information Modeling collaboration and review platforms including ACC/BIM360, Bluebeam, and Navisworks.
  • Thorough understanding of United States building codes and standards applicable to seismic and structural design, including ASCE, ACI, AISC 341, IBC, and applicable state-specific amendments.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills with experience leading technical discussions with architects, contractors, and owners.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multi-discipline coordination, review processes, and change control in complex projects.
  • Experience on industrial and manufacturing building projects is mandatory.
  • A valid driver's license is required, although it may be waived for international assignments.
Responsibilities
  • Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments.
  • Make decisive, independent decisions on engineering problems, practices, and methods, creating and refining innovative design solutions.
  • For licensed staff members acting as lead project engineers, stamp or seal their own drawings and documents, as well as drawings and documents completed as the professional in responsible charge under applicable jurisdictional statutes.
  • Represent the firm in meetings and conferences to resolve important questions and plan and coordinate projects.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and direct medium to large engineering projects or multiple smaller complex projects, with overall responsibility for budget adherence, schedule adherence, quality control, and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Accept or reject major items involving materials, equipment, manufacturer quality, and field construction.
  • Serve as a key staff advisor and technical specialist in structural engineering, leveraging highly specialized knowledge and techniques to drive project success.
  • Provide strategic leadership by guiding teams through critical objectives, innovative concepts, policy challenges, and complex project developments.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and review the work of engineers and designers assigned to the same project.
  • Define project scope of work and organize it into manageable tasks.
  • Provide supervisors and project managers with warnings about scope-of-work changes.
  • Maintain continuing professional education in structural engineering.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians by providing technical guidance in structural engineering principles, software use, and code application.
  • Drive business growth through strategic client engagement and proactive business development initiatives.
  • Meet with clients to define project scope, present project progress, and assure client satisfaction.
  • Support risk management initiatives by identifying potential design vulnerabilities related to seismic performance, load path continuity, and material durability under local and national code provisions.
  • Travel as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply seismic detailing and design requirements for concrete, steel, and foundation systems in seismic design categories D-F is preferred.
  • Experience on data center and/or pharmaceutical projects is preferred.

SHYFT Collective design team acquired by SSOE Group. SSOE Group, a global architecture and engineering firm headquartered in Toldeo, Ohio, announced the acquisition of Des Moines-based SHYFT Collective's architecture and design team to enhance its service capacity in the Des Moines and Columbus, Ohio, markets. "Our clients will continue working with the same trusted team, now supported by the scale and experience of SSOE," Steve Reynolds, founding partner and principal of SHYFT, said in a prepared statement. "SSOE brings the capacity and portfolio of a firm that successfully delivers projects of every size and complexity. With their resources behind us, we now can execute larger scopes and provide a full range of services under one roof while also creating more informed designs using computational and AI powered tools." The acquisition closed on Oct. 10, with Shyft Construction continuing to operate independently in the Iowa and Ohio markets.
