Job Description:
The Referral Specialist is responsible to execute patient referrals as indicated by physicians, seek authorization as required by individual insurances and notify patients.
Schedule Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm.
- Obtains referral request from physician.
- Verifies insurance coverage or lack thereof for patient. Obtains authorizations if needed from insurance coverage.
- Gathers all records necessary for incoming or outgoing referral requests.
- Gathers pertinent information from insurance carriers, financial counselors, and other ancillary staff to make certain the patient’s financial obligations for services provided.
- Completes referral paperwork, including copies, and fax to medical office.
- Contacts patient regarding referral information and give name, location, telephone number of specialist.
- Acts as a liaison between hospitals, physicians, health plans, vendors, and patients, or other referral sources.
- Covers New Patient Coordinator, Non-oncology referral coordinator, HIM, VA authorizations and phones as needed and under the supervision of the team Leader.
- Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- One year front office or revenue cycle experience in a health care organization.
- One year of customer service.
- One year of Microsoft Suite.
Physical Requirements:
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
- Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment.
- Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
